Drawing on years of travel, conversations with growers and garden makers, and countless visits to gardens across continents, Paul looks beyond the “how-to” and dives into the deeper questions — why do we garden, what’s changing in the gardening world, and what does it reveal about who we are?

About My Podcast
Gardening is universal. No matter where we live, what we grow, or how we garden, we share the same instinct: to nurture something and watch it flourish.
From conversations with fellow gardeners and professionals, this podcast blends practical advice and emerging trends with philosophical reflections on beauty, patience, and growth. It blends professional insight with storytelling shaped by Paul’s earlier life as a stand-up comic and writer. Thoughtful, curious, occasionally irreverent — and always rooted in experience — this is gardening explored from the inside out.

I believe most gardeners want to grow roses, but many are intimidated by them because of their reputation for being difficult.
Matt, Jason, and I look at how roses got this reputation, whether it’s still deserved today, and what all of us who love roses can do to make growing them easier, more approachable, and a lot more fun.

To say Peter Beales was a giant in the world of roses is an understatement. He was also one of the most enjoyable and kindest people I knew. While I was in the UK recently I sat down with Ian Limmer who started with Peter when he was 15 and knew Peter better than most people. Enjoy our conversation about this wonderful man.

Chateau La Tour Apollinaire is a great vacation hire with apartments and perfect for families. I I highly recommend it. Check out Their Website.

The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge in Chimney Rock, North Carolina has always been a special place. It was created, built and maintained by all volunteers. Over time it came to be part of the entire community. Then in September of 2024 Hurricane Helene came through. This is that story.
The Bridge is run by volunteers and one of the ways it's funded is through donations. If you would like to make a donation you can do so by clicking here.
